Trip Overview

This tour offers an in-depth exploration of Paro and Thimphu, a visit to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, the ancient capital of Bhutan and the stunning Phobjikha Valley, a famous shelter of the rare Black Necked Cranes. This trip is for those who wish to experience the essential Bhutan and discover out of the towns to get the feel of the daily life in Bhutan. It allows the traveller to explore the stunning traditional architecture and landscapes on an overland drive to the ancient capital and beyond Bhutan’s haven for the rare Black Necked Cranes, which shelter here in the winter months.

We get to explore the truly unique culture, clothing and crafts, farming and rural life, the famously spicy food and have a possibility to learn about Bhutan’s incredibly rich Buddhist heritage. All of this set in the beautiful Bhutanese landscape with its high mountains, lush forests and picturesque terraced fields.

Outline Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive in Thimpu (2,350 m) and transfer to your Hotel. Visit the Tashichodzong in the evening.

Day 02: Full day sightseeing in Thimpu, visiting the Memorial Chorten, Changangkha Lhakhang and Motithang mini Zoo followed by the National Library. In the afternoon, a leisure drive to Punakha (1,310m).

Day 03: Explore the Punakha and Wangdi town.

Day 04: Drive to Phobjikha/Gangtey valley (3,000 m) and visit the valley.

Day 05: Descend to Paro (2,200m). There will be Full day sightseeing in Paro, covering all the major sights.

Day 06: After an early breakfast, head down to Taktsang Monastery, hike for 2 hours to reach the hilltop for splendid views. Visit the Kyichu Lhakhang and wander around Drukyul Dzong for it’s glorious ruined forts.

Day 07: Trip concludes and departs for onward journey.

Brief Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive in Thimpu (2,350 m) and transfer to your Hotel. Visit the Tashichodzong in the evening.

Arrive at Paro Airport. Be received by our staff that will help in assisting you to get transferred to Thimpu. Overnight stay at a hotel in Thimphu with BB Plan. In the evening, visit Tashichodzong, the parliament house of the country.

Day 02: Visit the Memorial chorten and sightseeing to other major landmarks.

After an early breakfast in the morning, visit the memorial “Chorten” built in the memory of His Majesty King by the Royal Queen Mother. Visit Changangkha Lhakhang, Motithang mini Zoo to see the national animal, the Takin. Later, drive down to the viewpoint from where you can have splendid views of Thimphu valley. Visit the National Library to see large collection of traditional books, folk heritage museum where you can appreciate the typical Bhutanese lifestyle. Subsequently, in the afternoon drive to Punakha.

Day 03: Explore the Punakha and Wangdi town.

Process the immigration permit in the morning and later take a transfer to Punakha through Do Chula Pass from where one can see beautiful views of Eastern Himalayan Range on a clear sunny day. Visit Punakha town and the Punakha Dzong, which is the summer residence of Central Monastic body. Later, sightseeing around Wangdi town. Overnight stay at a hotel in Wangdi with BB Plan.

Day 04: Drive to Phobjikha/Gangtey valley (3,000 m) and visit the valley.

After an early breakfast, transfer to Phobjikha/Gangtey valley (3000 m) and explore the valley. Later in the evening, descend to Wangdi. Overnight stay at a hotel in Wangdi with BB Plan.

Day 05: Descend to Paro (2,200m). There will be Full day sightseeing in Paro, covering all the major sights.

Early morning transfer to Paro; visit Ta Dzong, the National Museum housed in an ancient watchtower, which has a fine collection of ancient Thangka painting, textiles, weapons and artifacts. Look around the Ugyen-Pelri Palace and the traditional wooden bridge including the three-storied chorten shaped temple known as Dungtse Lhakhang. Overnight stay at a hotel in Paro with BB Plan.

Day 06: After an early breakfast, head down to Taktsang Monastery, hike for 2 hours to reach the hilltop for splendid views. Visit the Kyichu Lhakhang and wander around Drukyul Dzong for it’s glorious ruined forts.

Early morning drive to the end point of Taktsang and stop over for hiking. On the way back, visit the ruins of Drugyel Dzong. This Dzong is of historical importance, from whose ramparts are the Bhutanese repelled Tibetan invaders. On a clear day, one can view the sacred Mount Chhomolhari, Mountain of Goddess. Later, in the evening visit Kichu Monastery. Overnight stay at a hotel in Paro with BB Plan.

Day 07:Trip concludes and departs for onward journey.
