Trip Overview

Sikkim, with, a niche history of it’s own, is undoubtedly acclaimed as the world’s last paradise by the renowned Buddhist guru, Padmasambhava. Often touted as the best kept secret in the Himalayas, its tiny kingdom is a haven for plant and adventure lovers, making it an aesthetically destination in India.

Being one of the most popular treks in Sikkim, the trails of Yuksom Dzong Ri offer plenty of spectacular and majestic panoramic views of the Himalayan giants, including Kanchenjunga (8435m), the third highest mountain in the world. The path brings the raw trekking adventure at its finest where tourists can succumb into the natural realm of moss-laden forests of chestnut, oak, pine and a variety of wild plants, exotic orchids including an impressive diversity of birds. Being one of the most secluded and beautiful treks in India, one can enjoy the rhododendron-covered hillsides, revered monasteries and snow-clad glaciers.

Outline Itinerary

Day 01: Catch an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur and arrive to the Airport for proceeding further to Gangtok (1,650) by surface.

Day 02: An entire day is kept for sightseeing in Gangtok with all the predominant landmarks covered. Visit Enchey Monastery, Deer Park, Dodrul chorten and Institute of Tibetology followed by Rumtek Monastery.

Day 03: Drive to Yuksom.

Day 04: Trek to Tshoka (3,000m).

Day 05: Acclimatize at Tshoka.

Day 06: Trek to Dzong RI (4,020m).

Day 07: Explore Dzong RI.

Day 08: Descend back to Tshoka.

Day 09: Arrive back to Yuksom/ trekking ends.

Day 10: Trip concludes and we drive back to Bhadrapur for onward flight to Kathmandu.

Brief Itinerary

Day 01: Catch an early morning flight to Bhadrapur.

Take an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, which will take approximately 45 minutes of flight time. Arrive at the airport. Be received by our staff that will assist you in getting transferred to Gangtok (1650m) by surface. Overnight stay at a hotel in Gangtok with BB Plan.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Gangtok.

The day starts off with an early breakfast and sightseeing to Enchey Monastery, Deer Park, Dodrul chorten and Institute of Tibetology (all being important sights of Gangtok). After lunch, we then proceed to explore Rumtek Monastery, the seat of Karmapa (second in hierarchy after His Holiness, the Dalai Lama). Overnight stay at a hotel in Gangtok with BB Plan.

Day 03: Drive to Yuksom.

Drive to Yuksom via the tea estate. Stop over once we reach our major campsite of the trek in Yuksom. Overnight at a Guesthouse or Tourist Lodge.

Day 04: Trek to Tshoka (3,000m).

The trail starts from Yuksom to the north of the valley, embracing the Ratong Chu River. After crossing various bridges, hearing the unwavering sounds of the gorge below, we reach a small settlement called Bakhim. Further, continuing for about 3kms, through the rhododendron forests, we reach our next campsite, Tshoka (3000m).

Day 05: Acclimatize at Tshoka.

The whole day is for acclimatizing at Tshoka. Overnight at a Guesthouse or Tourist Lodge in Tshoka.

Day 06: Trek to Dzong RI (4,020m).

Today will be a steep climb from Tshoka to Dzong RI that will take approximately 5 hours. Passing through Deorali Dara, we are surprised with the spectacular views of the mountains. Once we reach a point called Phidang, we take a lunch break. After several hours, we finally reach Dzong RI.

Day 07: Explore Dzong RI.

The entire day is kept for exploring Dzong RI (4020m) where we get the best viewpoints and is kept for photography sessions.

Day 08: Descend back to Tshoka.

We descend back to Tshoka and while returning, we are bewildered with the beautiful sceneries of magnolia. Overnight at a Guesthouse or Tourist Lodge in Tshoka.

Day 09: Arrive back to Yuksom/ trekking ends.

Today, we go back to Yuksom that will take about 6 hours. Trekking ends and overnight at a Guesthouse or Tourist Lodge in Yuksom.

Day 10: Trip concludes and we drive back to Bhadrapur for onward flight to Kathmandu.
