About this Festival:
Maha Shivratri, which literally translates to “great night of Shiva” is a Hindu festival largely celebrated with great euphoria and ecstasy. The day is celebrated to venerate Lord Shiva by singing hymns and making offerings to the Divine so as to bring good luck in their life. Dedicated to the lord of creation, preservation and destruction, the celebration is held with great joy and devotion, symbolizing victory, honesty and forgiveness.
Thousands of ardent devotees from all over the world flock to Shiva temples on this auspicious day, as it is believed that sincere devotion helps the devotee to achieve positive karma and spiritual liberation. Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu, Nepal witness more than million devotees on the eve of Shivratri as Pashupatinath is revered as the Guardian and Protector of the capital. One can witness devotees chanting ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ and ‘Mahamritunjaya’ the entire night. Prophecies believe that by doing so it helps them to end bad habits and bring significant changes to their life.
